 01 The system in detail

## The treatment, closer to its source.

The FAS STERYL G33 brings shredding and steam sterilisation together in an Integrated Sterilisation and Shredding system, or ISS. It is designed for hospitals, clinics and laboratories that want to treat infectious waste within their facility and reduce their reliance on external waste disposal.

The process combines high-torque biaxial shredding with high-pressure steam. A microprocessor manages the automated cycle: the waste is loaded, shredded and sterilised, then discharged as dry, unrecognisable material. Mechanical treatment and sterilisation are parts of the same system.

Configuration

## Every detail. A purpose.

The main elements of the system, from its treatment method to its controls and output.

**Process**: Integrated Sterilisation and Shredding (ISS)

**Treatment**: High-pressure steam

**Control**: Automated, microprocessor-managed cycle

**Waste streams**: Sharps, plastics and textiles, as described by GENCO

**Output**: Dry, shredded, unrecognisable solids

 02 How it works

## One integrated cycle.

Follow the material, from loading to treated output.

01

### Load

Infectious waste is introduced into the treatment chamber. Loading is the first stage of the automated cycle described for the G33; the following processing stages are managed by the system’s microprocessor.

02

### Shred & sterilise

Biaxial shredding reduces the material’s size and volume. At the same time, high-pressure steam provides the sterilisation treatment. This integration is the defining feature of the ISS process.

03

### Discharge

At the end of the cycle, the treated waste is discharged as dry, shredded solids. The original product description emphasises that sharps, plastics and textiles become unrecognisable after treatment.

 03 Why this process

## An integrated process. Practical benefits.

01

### Reduce the volume to manage

Shredding changes the physical form of the waste as well as its volume. GENCO’s published description states an 80% volume reduction for the G33. This figure describes the volume of material, not its weight or the capacity of the machine.

02

### Bring treatment into the facility

On-site treatment addresses the dependence on external infectious-waste disposal described in the original product information. Transport costs and hazardous-waste charges are the economic factors highlighted there; their effect should be assessed against the facility’s actual waste-management arrangements.

03

### Manage energy and operation

The G33 is described as a compact, automated system with energy-saving modes and an operating noise level below 70 dB. The published energy-saving figure is up to 30%; operating conditions and the reference consumption need to be considered when evaluating the system.

 04 The treated material

## The material changes. So does its handling.

The G33 description identifies sharps, plastics and textiles among the waste materials treated. Shredding makes the output unrecognisable, while the steam stage performs the sterilisation treatment. The result is described as a dry solid with reduced volume.

GENCO describes the treated output as suitable for municipal-waste disposal. The subsequent collection and disposal route should be discussed for the specific waste stream and project; the treatment description alone is not a disposal instruction for every material.

 05 Product information

## Published performance.

Figures and statements published on the original GENCO site. Confirm test conditions, applicable waste streams and project requirements with the team.

**Volume reduction**: 80%

**Microbiological reduction**: Up to 6 log

**Energy-saving modes**: Up to 30% lower consumption

**Operating noise**: Below 70 dB

**Return on investment**: 24–36 months, as stated on the original site

**Emissions**: The original site states no dioxins or furans

 06 Questions about G33

## A closer look.

Useful answers before discussing your project.

 01

### What does ISS mean?

 +

ISS stands for Integrated Sterilisation and Shredding. In the G33, mechanical shredding and high-pressure steam sterilisation are combined in an automated process. The term describes the treatment technology, rather than a separate machine or an additional certification.

 02

### Which facilities is the G33 designed for?

 +

The original description names hospitals, clinics and laboratories. To assess its suitability, start with the types of infectious waste produced, the quantities to be treated and the organisation of collection within the facility. These are the starting points for a technical discussion with GENCO.

 03

### How should the microbiological performance be read?

 +

GENCO’s product information states microbiological inactivation of up to a 6-log reduction. The published website does not include the supporting test report or full test conditions. Ask for those documents when matching the stated performance to a particular waste stream and operating requirement.

 04

### Is the published payback period a guarantee?

 +

The original site quotes a return on investment of 24–36 months. This is a published indication, not a project-specific calculation. Waste volumes, current collection and transport costs, and operating requirements are needed to assess the economic case for an individual facility.
