The technology

# Precision. At every stage.

Mechanical shredding. Pressurised steam. Controlled cycles. A considered approach to treating infectious medical waste.

 01 ISS

## Shredding and sterilisation. Working together.

ISS stands for Integrated Sterilisation and Shredding. In the G33, high-torque biaxial shredding reduces waste volume and makes the material unrecognisable, while high-pressure steam provides sterilisation. A microprocessor manages the automated cycle from loading through to treated output. The original description names sharps, plastics and textiles among the materials processed.

Understanding the technology

## Three elements. A connected process.

01

### Mechanical treatment

Shredding prepares the waste for treatment and changes its physical form. In the G33, high-torque biaxial shredding is integrated with steam sterilisation. In the G67, shredding takes place under slight vacuum, before the material is transferred to the sterilisation chambers through a sealed screw conveyor.

02

### Steam treatment

Both descriptions identify pressurised steam as the means of sterilisation. The G67 sequence makes the preparation explicit: air is removed first, steam is then introduced, and internal mixing shafts support uniform heat exchange. Its published steam temperature reaches up to 142 °C; this figure belongs to the G67 description.

03

### Cycle control

Automation connects the stages of treatment. The G33 uses a microprocessor-managed cycle. The G67 description includes automatic PLC reporting to document and validate each cycle. Understanding the control system is part of evaluating the technology alongside the mechanical and thermal processes.

 02 The G67 process

## A sequence with purpose.

Six connected phases, from incoming waste to treated output.

 01

### Load & shred

 +

Waste boxes enter the system on a conveyor. The industrial shredder homogenises the material under slight vacuum, limiting the escape of odours and pathogens. The original description presents automated loading as a way to avoid direct operator contact with infectious material.

 02

### Transfer

 +

Once shredded, the waste moves into the sterilisation chambers through a sealed screw conveyor. This connects the mechanical preparation stage with steam treatment, moving the material between the two parts of the system inside the sealed transfer mechanism.

 03

### Initial vacuum

 +

Air is removed from the chamber before steam is introduced. This prepares the material for contact with steam during sterilisation. The extracted air passes through medical-grade HEPA H14 filters, making air handling part of the treatment sequence.

 04

### Steam sterilisation

 +

Pressurised steam is introduced at temperatures up to 142 °C. Internal shafts rotate to mix the material and support uniform heat exchange. Steam treatment follows the initial vacuum stage and precedes depressurisation and drying.

 05

### Dry & cool

 +

After sterilisation, depressurisation and pulsed vacuum cool the treated material. This stage reduces its moisture content and weight, preparing it for the final discharge phase. Drying is described as part of the G67 cycle itself.

 06

### Controlled discharge

 +

The treated, unrecognisable waste is discharged into collection bags. The original process description mentions disposal or energy recovery as subsequent destinations. Automatic PLC reporting documents the cycle, and GENCO states that waste is not discharged without sterilisation.

 03 Control & recovery

## Look beyond the treatment.

The G67 process extends beyond the steam stage. Extracted air passes through HEPA H14 filters; automatic PLC reports document each cycle; an integrated recovery system puts residual process heat to use. At the end of treatment, pulsed vacuum reduces moisture before the material is discharged into collection bags. These functions connect the treatment itself with air handling, cycle documentation and the next stage of material management.
